There's something about painting or carving pumpkins to get ready for Halloween that easily puts you in the Halloween spirit! The tradition is a fun one that never seems to get old when Halloween is close to approaching. If you're wanting to paint pumpkins last minute for Halloween as it's coming up soon, we have 5 painting pumpkin ideas for you below. We wanted to decorate the front porch of our Fenn Farms Model Home in American Fork to spruce it up a bit for Halloween and painted these ourselves! All you'll need are pumpkins, paint of your choice, paintbrushes, and cups of water, along with newspaper or surface you can get paint on. Find supplies at your local grocery or craft store. Grab your friends and loved ones and start painting!
1. Cats
If you've got a knack for painting, this may be right up your alley for designing your pumpkin. Cats! It takes a bit more skill than usual to pull them off, but once you've got it down and added them all around the pumpkin, it truly shines and looks stunning. We'd suggest practicing how you'd prefer your cat to look on paper or material that you can test out on before you try it on the pumpkin. For our pumpkins, we thought of letting the orange color of the pumpkin shine through and only using paint for designing the cats and we like how it turned out! What do you think?
2. Glitter Spiders
Glitter spiders were fun to do and took quite a bit of time to execute on a large pumpkin but so worth it! The way it turned out is really cute and makes a great addition to the other pumpkins on the front porch of our model home. This is also a simple one, with the body being an oval and then painting four legs on each side. To finish off the look of these, we added glitter paint to not only the stem of the pumpkin but also to the black spiders. The contrast of black and white spiders also makes the large pumpkin stand out and draws attention in a fun way!
Ghosts, a classic symbol of Halloween, are also perfect for painting pumpkins with! We painted the whole pumpkin a beautiful blue shade as we thought it was fitting for the aesthetic we wanted that looks good paired with the orange and white pumpkins. You're welcome to choose any color of choice. Create a simple ghost shape with the bottom wavy and add black eyes to the look. That's it!
This was a more intricate design that we added to a white pumpkin, but they turned out intriguing and eye-catching! If you or your friends have the skill, you can execute this by looking up a bat symbol online and drawing it out. You can sketch it out with a pencil or sharpie on the pumpkin beforehand if needed. We also added more glitter paint to some of the bats for more dimension! This probably was our favorite pumpkin we did!
5. Simple Polka Dots
A simple choice that doesn't involve sketching out bats or cats is painting polka dots on pumpkins. They end up looking really cute and you can choose a variety of pumpkin colors, shapes, and sizes, as well as paint colors. Have fun with it and create a bunch of polka-dot-painted pumpkins! Or, add a few to your assorted pumpkins with different designs, as we did.
This is a super simple and easy way to decorate pumpkins of your liking! If you grew up drawing stars on your school notes, this will even be easier for you. Use a sharpie to draw stars and moons around the whole pumpkin. It creates less mess than the paint, but just make sure to not smear it on any surface you want clean.
As you may know, we recently partnered with The Utah Jazz, so we wanted to make a Jazz pumpkin for fun! This is an exciting partnership that we are thrilled about.
In conclusion, we ended up painting each stem of the pumpkins with glitter paint for an added accent to them that we think turned out pretty great! We'd love to see the pumpkins you painted or carved for Halloween this year. Use the hashtag #VisionaryHalloween on social media for us to see and we'll reshare them!
