Design Inspiration: Classic Transitional Flat Lay Design Details

June 8, 2021

Who doesn't love a good design flat lay as inspiration when designing your new home or deciding on what to change up with your current? Whether you call it a flat lay, mood board, or vignette, we've got not one, but four of them! Our designers created four design flat lays of different interior styles as inspiration to share with you.

Today, we're sharing with you a modern transitional inspired mood board by our designer, Shawn L.Modern transitional can be defined as an interior design style blending both modern and traditional elements.Shawn says, "In traditional design, you'll typically find neutral walls, but color and texture totally have a place. Art, textiles, and decor accents can help pop a room, with dark, rich tones commonly used. Don’t be afraid to have a few loud (modern) moments in your home while sticking to your traditional style. The result is an elegant, enduring design that will be comfortable, classic and bold."

This design style showcases more of a modern flair, with simple to organic lines, and usually maintains a more neutral look, paired with traditional features mentioned above by Shawn. The style reflects a classic feel paired with what is more trendy and modern in design. There are many ways to integrate this style into your home, starting with the design selections you choose, from your kitchen backsplash to flooring.

Find inspiration below by viewing the details to this flat lay chosen from our award-winning design studio product catalog.

Shawn chose neutral colored design details to this flat lay as the perfect example of transitional style, with pops of gold to play as modern accents to the kitchen. When you pick more neutral design elements to your home, it's easier to decorate your space with colors of your choice and swap them out, when wanted. The modern backsplash to the flat lay can possibly be used in your kitchen and your owner's bath shower, as beautiful accent tile. For flooring, sticking to darker toned flooring is classic and creates a traditional design foundation that'll look timeless in your home.

Using neutral paint colors in your new home can also complement the overall look of your space, without being concerned about whether or not it matches new or previous furniture. The lighter paint color would look stunning to your main living space, while the darker hue, could make more of a bold statement to your home office or owner's suite as an accent wall.

Gold hardware is extremely popular in the design world right now, added most commonly to kitchen or bathroom cabinets, faucets, or shower hardware. The metallic shade adds a glam appeal that looks modern paired with any traditional elements, like dark wood tones and more detailed cabinets.

A Few Examples:

Kitchen

This Uinta kitchen showcases the modern, gold hardware accented with all white countertop and cabinets, with more traditional, darker toned flooring. This creates the perfect blend of the two styles for a modern, transitional design style to a kitchen space. Opt for darker cabinets if white cabinets are not your style, to still exude this design style paired with similar countertop and flooring.

Owner's Bath
