As the most trusted home builder in Logan, Utah, we are constantly looking for new ways to improve your home. One way we have tried to do that is by building green homes. We have tried to use products that conserve natural resources, avoid toxins or other emissions, and that save energy and money. In an attempt to stay green we have discovered a few DIY green projects for your home.
You can do this without the help of an electrician. This thermostat is an easy way to regulate the temperature in your home. Most thermostats have energy saving programs but it is nice to customize as much as possible.
This is probably the most effective thing that you can do and the easiest. All you need to do is replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescent ones. Fluorescent bulbs use 75 percent less energy, and last 10 times longer than traditional bulbs according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Try to find windows that can help reduce energy loss. If you are savvy with home improvement this won’t be too hard for you. Double-paned windows are a great way to save energy or for a more budget friendly option check out storm windows.
This can be any type of garden that you want. From a traditional garden to a few pots of herbs and tomatoes; growing your own food can significantly reduce your carbon footprint.
This one is genius. What you do is add a two-liter bottle filled with water to the water tank of an old toilet to instantly reduce the amount of water that is used with every flush. The two-liter bottle displaces water from the tank meaning the toilet has less water to use per flush.
