Homemade Peppermint Hot Cocoa

We found a fantastic recipe for the perfect peppermint hot cocoa to enjoy on a cold night cuddled up next to the fire. This is a great holiday activity to do with your loved ones to make a sweet treat for a holiday party, movie night or cozy night in. If you're looking to mix up the traditional hot cocoa you tend to have from the package, this homemade peppermint hot cocoa will excite your taste buds and give you a hint of freshness. This simple recipe only requires a few ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to make so you can truly enjoy relaxing with loved ones during this festive season.

Items you'll need: 

  • 2 cups milk 
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 
  • 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract
  • 1 cup chopped semisweet chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • whipped cream, marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, etc. 

Instructions:

This will make about 4 cups. See the original recipe to make less or more at stripedspatula.com.  

  • Mix together in a pan on medium-low heat, milk, sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, salt, and peppermint extract until bubbling. 
  • Turn to low heat and add in chocolate until smooth and thickened texture. 
  • Done! Pour in separate mugs and serve with whipped cream on top, marshmallows, and mini chocolate chips. 
  • Enjoy!
