Owning a home is kind of a big deal. Why? Because your home is a place for memories to be made and moments to be experienced and it is quite literally a place to keep all your things. Not to mention it's a quiet backdrop to your entire life.

As a home organizer, I’m tasked with a variety of home-focused questions and challenges ranging from how to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional pantry to how to keep all the toys contained. In this blog post I've decided to share some of my most useful kitchen organization tips for the new homeowner.

1. Be intentional with where you put your kitchen appliances (and food)

This could be said about any living space but time and time again I see someone move into a home and in a rush to unbox they put things wherever it makes sense in the moment. Oftentimes, homeowners forget to think about their own living patterns and needs. Avoid this scenario by thinking through what appliances you use often, which ones you don't and what items you need to have accessible on a daily basis. Arrange as necessary.

2. Buy the drawer dividers

Nobody wants a drawer full of spatulas and salad spoons - that's a recipe for instant frustration when it comes time to cook. Instead, measure your drawers and find a quality drawer divider to keep those large cooking utensils organized and easy to find. Remember, the entire goal of an organized kitchen is to help you find what you need when you need it. I likethisbamboo option from Amazon. I also likethiscustomizable acrylic option from iDesign.

3. Make your pantry like your very own store

Yes, seriously. What do you notice about fully-stocked grocery shelves? All the labels face forward and all of the food is visible. Make this happen in your own pantry regardless of its size. By being purposeful about how neatly you display your food, you'll find yourself wanting to spend time in your pantry (and wanting to cook!). Also, discard any extra packaging and it’ll be one of the easiest things you can do with one of the biggest impacts. Remember, extra packaging is clutter.

While I could go on and on about kitchen organization tips, I’ll leave these ones here. Let me know if you try them and share in the comments below.
