Design Inspiration: Midcentury Modern Flat Lay Design Details

May 11, 2021

Who doesn't love a good design flat lay as inspiration when designing your new home or deciding on what to change up with your current? Whether you call it a flat lay, mood board, or vignette, we've got not one, but four of them! Our designers created four design flat lays of different interior styles as inspiration to share with you.

Starting with a midcentury modern inspired mood board by our designer, Hailey H."Normally when people think of mid-century you would probably think of long, low furniture and pops of color. It can be hard to showcase those characteristics in a vignette, so I used bold patterns, exciting colors, & minimal lines to curate a fun, modern mid-century look," Hailey explains.

View below for details to the flat lay chosen from our award-winning design studio product catalog.

In order for your home to exude a midcentury modern flair, it's important to design your interior with neutrals to complement the accent tiles or bold elements and furniture you decide on. With this flat lay, Hailey chose neutrals in shades of white and brown to pair nicely with the #4 accent tile, which could possibly be used as backsplash to a bathroom shower, kitchen, or laundry room. Then, she picked out paint swatches that can create an accent wall to just about any room. You can also include decor that has midcentury or modern style to your space, such as gold vases for plants or a simple console table with clean lines.

Our previous Summerlyn model home was designed with many mid century modern elements, from the lighting to the cabinets and flooring. The light fixture to the dining room added a fun, yet stylish look to the space, with circular bulbs in an angular design. It also made the perfect striking addition to the main living space.

Great Room

Creating the perfect balance between midcentury and modern is the bright, neutral kitchen and the coffered ceiling with bold green paint to the great room, along with gold accented chairs and decor, which all encompass the interior design style. Neutral design features from flooring to cabinets to this previous model home were chosen for the ceiling paint color to pop. Otherwise, if too many colors and textures were designed in this home, the elements would be too distracting and would clash to the space.

Owner's Bath

The owner's bath to the Summerlyn also showcases neutral cabinets, flooring, and countertops, for a mid century modern style. Displaying clean lines throughout and organic forms, mixing both mid century with modern style beautifully.
